Renewable Energy Takes Hold in Ohio

Notes From the Editor

Ohio’s commitment to an advanced energy industry is emerging across the state today in many different forms. Momentum is building as Green Energy Ohio (GEO) explores the state’s enormous potential for job creation in manufacturing, distributing and installing clean energy technologies. Energy efficiency and renewable energy measures are increasingly being accepted as real solutions to climate recovery. The success of pioneers making renewable energy work for them is being widely demonstrated in homes, businesses, schools, parks, and now, at the state government level, as Ohio seeks to lead by example in reducing energy consumption in this era of steep energy prices, mounting environmental concerns and persistent energy security risks.

The time is now for renewable energy! It’s real, it’s here and it’s working in Ohio. This 2007 Ohio Renewable Energy Resource Guide features Ohioans taking the lead in transitioning a sustainable energy vision into reality. With a regional approach to the content, similar to the design of the annual GEO Ohio Solar Tour, readers can point to local, working examples of renewable energy technologies, green design, healthy building techniques and more.

Learn about how “Sustainable Energy Puts America to Work!” as GEO hosts the 36th annual SOLAR 2007 National Conference in Cleveland in July, sponsored by the American Solar Energy Society (pg. 6); a Toledo area homebuilder is designing homes equipped with Energy Star appliances and optional PV systems (pg. 12); an Ohio university is advancing the study and use of photovoltaics (pg. 14); the forward thinking of a public sector landfill is going far beyond reducing our reliance on landfills with two major waste-to-energy projects underway in Franklin County (pg. 18); a public utility’s donation of over 470 solar panels in high visibility areas in Cincinnati is increasing customer energy efficiency and adoption of alternative energies (pg. 24); and a farm near Dayton with one of the largest grid-connected small wind turbine sites in the world, and new on-site Future Energy education center (pg. 28).
As an encore to the 2006 Renewable Energy Resource Guide, I would like to thank the sponsors of the 2007 guide for making the publication a true resource for anyone interested in commercial and residential renewable energy projects, conservation, energy efficiency and more. Visit the advertising pages and take advantage of the opportunities for increased development and deployment of clean energy technologies in Ohio.

Green Energy Ohio invites you to learn more about the growing renewable energy industry in the Buckeye state. Join GEO and get involved. You can make a difference!
