Acceleration: Global Venture Capital Insights Report 2007

Report - Ecomonics

Acceleration: Global Venture Capital Insights Report 2007, Asiaing.comForeword:  Over the last 18 months, the venture capital industry around the globe has experienced a welcome acceleration in the mature investment hotbeds—the United States, Europe and Israel—and in the emerging venture capital hotbeds of China and India. Global venture capital investment last year reached US$35.2 billion, the highest level since 2001, and is maintaining a robust pace in 2007. The acceleration has been bolstered by the increasing globalization of both venture capital funds and venture-backed companies and a substantial investor focus on emerging sectors such as clean technologies.

Acceleration, our fifth annual global report, provides insight into global venture capital trends, the state of the pool of privately held venture-backed companies, key clean technology developments and perspectives on the performance of the biotechnology industry. The report also encompasses insights on some of the most important accounting topics for the venture industry: the impact of FAS 157, auditor independence and due diligence leading practices.

Throughout the report, partners from some of the top venture capital firms around the globe share their own perspectives on the lessons learned from recent industry developments and what likely lies ahead—we are grateful for their contributions.

Report highlights include a roundtable discussion on cleantech mega-trends hosted by the Cleantech Venture Network, insights from Sequoia Capital’s partners about the firm’s approach to investing in key venture capital hotbeds and an interview on future technology trends with Joe Schoendorf of Accel Partners.

We hope that you will find this report to be a source of valuable insight and we look forward to working together with you on the global challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
