Newspaper - AM New York

AM New York, June 5, 2008AM New York: Manhattan's Largest Circulation Daily.

AM New York is a free daily New York City morning newspaper published in New York City by Tribune Company, which also publishes Newsday. According to the company, average daily distribution as of summer 2005 was 311,500.

When it launched in October of 2003, AM New York was the first newspaper of its kind in New York City. Its main competitor is now New York Metro, which followed AM New York into the market, using many of the same distribution and marketing strategies.

The paper is primarily distributed in two ways; The first being by workers ("hawkers," who sport a red AM New York vest) paid to station themselves near and around NYC transportation points, who offer the free paper to anyone who passes by; The second being distributed in enclosed newspaper holders ("honor boxes") located on the sidewalks and corners near areas of high pedestrian traffic.

BATTLE FOR THEWHITE HOUSE
Barack Obama vs. John McCain

Spotlight turns to candidates’weaknesses

Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain start their showdown for the White House lacking broad public faith that either can right a struggling economy and needing to win back party stalwarts who have deserted them, polls of primary voters show.

The crucial question: Whose weaknesses will cost him the election? Obama, 46, battling to become the nation’s first black president and one of its youngest, cast himself as an agent of change, the quality Democratic voters were seeking more than any other.

In a sharp contrast, McCain, 71, towered over his Republican rivals as the one with the most experience.

The two candidates’ problems start with the economy, which members of both parties agreed is the country’s top issue. Neither man got even half the votes of his party’s voters who worried most about the economy. And each must strive to court certain groups of voters.

McCain never did catch on with the GOP’s most conservative voters, including those who strongly oppose abortion, are born again or evangelical Christians, or favor tough steps against illegal immigrants.

On the Democratic side, Obama has done poorly with working-class whites and Hispanics, getting only about one in three of each group’s votes.
