The League of American Bicyclists is the national membership organization of cyclists. We promote cycling for fun, fitness and transportation, and work through advocacy and education for a bicycle-friendly America. The League's magazine, American Bicyclist, is a celebration of cycling. The magazine is published quarterly and distributed to our membership of 40,000 individuals, nearly 500 recreational clubs (representing over 300,000 members), and 140 state and local advocacy organizations. Our readers are the most committed and passionate cyclists in the United States. Download American Bicyclist Magazine, July/Ausgut 2007 PDF FORMAT, 11MB, 32PAGES. VIEWPOINT: ALL ABOUT YOU We learned that while there was a generally high level of satisfaction and a sense of value for money for League membership, we aren’t infusing in you enough passion and connection with the League’s mission, goals and programs to answer a question critical to our future: would you recommend the League to your friends and family (or at least your riding buddies!)? Our goal for the next months is to get many more of our members to say “Yes!” to that question. We can better speak up for you nationally if our membership is bigger and more actively involved in our programs. One immediate way we’re going to achieve that goal is to tell you more about what we’re doing! This year, you’ll receive six issues of American Bicyclist instead of four. We hope you’ll also take advantage of our continually improving website and bi-weekly e-newsletter to stay in touch. The board is considering a proposal to create additional volunteer positions and to better serve those who already volunteer as board members, club leaders, and instructors; all with an eye to improving your connection to the League. In return, I urge you to commit to getting involved in one or more of our programs this year. The number of clubs affiliated with the League has risen again to more than 600; we also have, for the fi rst time ever, more than 1,000 active League Cycling Instructors. We can continue this growth if you make sure your club is signed up, and if you make this the year you become an instructor and share your passion for cycling with others. Make this the year you come to the National Rally at El Tour de Tucson in November. Attend one of our Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) training workshops, or come see us at events this year. Stand up for bicycling in your community and make sure you live in a BFC. If you do, we think you’ll like what you see and will enthusiastically share the League with others – and that’s how we’ll grow to be stronger and more effective at promoting and protecting the rights of cyclists everywhere.
