Black MBA Magazine is mailed directly to nearly 8,000 NBMBAA® members, as well as educators and subscribers, including top entrepreneurs and Fortune 1000 executives. The magazine is also distributed to NBMBAA® chapters and to the nation’s top full-time and part-time graduate MBA programs, undergraduate business school programs and to select high school guidance counselors. Copies are also available for sale at select bookstores across the country. Each year, an additional 10,000 copies of the Fall issue are distributed on site at the NBMBAA® Annual Conference. Black MBA Magazine addresses the topics and concerns that are relevant to the more than 95,000 minority MBA graduates nationwide. CEO TO CEO: NBMBAA President & CEO Barbara L. Thomas sat down with Anne Sempowski Ward, president and chief operating officer of Fashion Fair Cosmetics, the world’s leading cosmetic and skin care company for women of color. Working with president and CEO of Johnson Publishing, Linda Johnson Rice, Ward leads all aspects of sales, marketing, product development, supply chain and new business development to strengthen the company’s overall position in the highly competitive beauty market. Prior to joining Fashion Fair, Ward spent more than a decade in marketing and general management for Procter & Gamble and Coca-Cola, developing diverse experience and launching strategies to target African Americans for iconic brands like Coke, Sprite, Tide, Tampax, Pantene and CoverGirl. A native of Detroit, Ward received her Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering and materials science and Global MBA degree from Duke University. Ward currently resides in Chicago with her husband, Kevin. Thomas and Ward recently spoke in Fashion Fair’s Chicago offi ces, where Ward keeps a bulletin board to showcase what she calls “gold standards” of beauty – everything from Fashion Fair’s recent Essence cosmetic awards to ads showcasing phenomenal makeup jobs. “These are the things that give me inspiration. These are things that are successful and I think about how to take this concept and apply it to my business. It will look different, but it is something that’s done really well,” she says. “And my team knows I’ll take an idea that was presented to me and say, ‘Well, is it good, or is it great?’ If it’s good, they know to go back and work on it.
