PRESIDENT'S LETTER
Since we published the last issue, much has happened at BMW and around the world. The current economic climate has led people to become more cautious when making purchases, especially major ones. As a result, sales have decreased in virtually all automotive segments. More than ever before, customers are seeking value.

They realize BMW offers the best blend of performance and efficiency, along with the enhanced value of industry-leading BMW Ultimate Service™ for 4 years/50,000 miles. As a result, BMW has strengthened its status as the top-selling luxury brand in America. Certified Pre-Owned BMW sales have also continued to lead the segment and we are committed to continuing this upward momentum.

BMW EfficientDynamics – combining greater driving enjoyment with fewer emissions – remains our core philosophy. The latest report published by the Environmental Defense Fund found that between 1990 and 2005, BMW reduced CO2 emissions by 12.3 percent – more than any other automotive company in the U.S. – while still increasing the size of its fleet. In line with our EfficientDynamics program, BMW is bringing exciting new offerings to market. You’ll read about ActiveHybrid tech nology which is making its debut in the X6 and 7 Series.

We also discuss the differences between an efficient gasoline engine and the new Advanced Diesel. Our eco-award-winning production facilities in Spartanburg, SC are expanding and becoming greener, with even more areas powered by methane gas harvested from a local refuse site. Next year, the plant will continue to be the sole producer of the X5s and X6s and will add the new X3 to its portfolio at the end of the year.

Our cover story features another new concept: the 5 Series Gran Turismo. An all-new category of vehicle, it blends the elegance and luxury of a sedan and the exciting performance of a coupe with the spaciousness and practicality of an SAV.®

As we continue to move upward and onward to the next chapter in BMW history, we will strive to deliver ultimate driving performance while increasing BMW EfficientDynamics. Come make the journey with us.

Sincerely,
Jim O’Donnell, President
BMW of North America
