Bank of America (NYSE: BAC TYO: 8648) is the largest commercial bank in the World in terms of deposits, and the 2nd largest company of its kind in the world behind Citigroup. (From wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) Welcome to the machine. The second-largest bank in the US by assets (behind Citigroup), Bank of America boasts the country's most extensive branch network, with more than 5,700 locations covering some 30 states from coast to coast. Its core services include consumer and small business banking, credit cards, investment banking and brokerage, and asset management. Bank of America fattened up by purchasing northeastern banking behemoth FleetBoston for some $50 billion in 2004 and credit card giant MBNA in early 2006. It later bought U.S. Trust from Charles Schwab for more than $3 billion and acquired Chicago-based LaSalle Bank for some $21 billion from Netherlands-based ABN AMRO. Taming the Dreaded Audit Landing the Loan You Need GOING ABOVE AND BEYOND On behalf of the associates at Bank of America, we are pleased to present the inaugural issue of Business 24/7 magazine. Business 24/7 magazine is an enhancement to the already robust Business 24/7TM suite of services from Bank of America, which includes access to competitively priced health insurance plans, online invoicing and payments, Easy Online PayrollTM, and Bank of America Small Business Discounts. The question we’ve been asked is, why a business magazine? The answer is simple—it benefits our customers. Each day the millions of businesses, both large and small, who choose to bank with us, strive to go above and beyond for the satisfaction of their customers. The magazine you hold in your hands is further proof that, as the No. 1 bank for small business, we strive to go above and beyond for our customers too. It is certainly no secret that small business is the backbone of the U.S. economy—as a sector it represents 99.7 percent of all U.S employers and half of the U.S economic output. At Bank of America we know the importance of small business not only to our economy but to the country as a whole and we are dedicated to serving the needs of small businesses. It is the reason we have introduced the time and money savings services of Business 24/7, making it easier for our business customers to do business. This issue’s cover story on tax planning (page 12) should provide you with valuable discussion points as you begin the conversation with your tax professional or advisor during this tax season. We know that as a business owner this time of year can be particularly stressful as you prepare your personal return, as well as your business returns and the necessary tax filings associated with your employees and contractors. Whether you’re preparing your own return or hiring a tax professional, preparation and organization is the key to reducing the stress and headaches so often associated with tax season. And if you are faced with an audit, such preparation becomes even more critical. (See our story on page 18 for more on how to handle an audit.) It’s another reason Bank of America offers so many products and services to help our business customers easily manage and organize their finances. We are sure you’ll find the inaugural issue of Business 24/7 full of information to make your business more productive and we hope you will find future editions of the magazine just as informative. Happy reading—and we wish you a less stressful tax season.
