Casino Lawyer Magazine, Spring 2007

Casino Lawyer Magazine, Spring 2007In the last two decades, gaming law has emerged as a critically important legal specialization. It is an exciting and diverse practice that touches on many other disciplines of law such as contracts, antitrust, constitutional law and others.

This area of practice has grown rapidly to meet the demand of growing and emerging gaming markets across the globe, but there is still a large, unsatisfied portion of that market.

If your firm offers gaming law as a specialty or would benefit by reaching gaming lawyers, regulators, compliance officers, security or surveillance directors, in house counsel or casino executives, Casino Lawyer magazine can help connect your firm’s abilities with the needs of the gaming industry.

Casino Lawyer is published four times a year by the International Masters of Gaming Law. It is distributed along with Casino Enterprise Management magazine to over 16,500 subscribers. Two thousand of these issues reach international destinations.

A Message From the President

At the risk of self-aggrandizement, my message to you this month is that the International Masters of Gaming Law is a healthy, vibrant, and relevant organization, which gains strength all the time.

We have a very aggressive agenda with a number of important, time-consuming projects in the works. We have a relatively large number of committees that help guide this organization and its projects. And we have only 135 members available to tackle our ambitious agenda. Let me reiterate—this is your organization, and your active, ongoing participation is imperative to its ongoing success. It is still early in the calendar year, and there are plenty of opportunities for you to get involved.

IMGL will continue to be highly visible at a number of gaming conferences in 2007, sending attendees and supplying expert speakers. I am pleased to announce the location of the two IMGL 2007 conferences. The Spring Conference will take place May 23 – 25 in Chicago at the beautiful Four Seasons Hotel. The Fall Conference will be Sept. 2 – 4 in Cape Town, South Africa. Details can be found at www.IMGLConference.com.

Once again IMGL will present 15 hours at the gaming law track at the highly popular CasinoFest 3, sponsored by Casino Enterprise Management, May 14 – 16 in Prior Lake, Minn. We’ll have a strong presence, as usual, at the Global Gaming Expo in November in Las Vegas.

And new this year, IMGL will be the exclusive sponsor of a gaming law track at the 15th Annual Southern Gaming Summit, which returns to its home in Biloxi, Miss., May 9 and 10. If you have an interest in speaking at any of these events, please contact IMGL Executive Director, Melissa Lurie, or myself.

One final note on membership: We’re still growing, and looking to grow. The best way to do that in an exclusive organization is through recruiting and referrals. If you know someone who would be an asset to this organization, please contact me. Or, if you’re reading this and not yet a member and are in need of a sponsor, let me know and I’ll be glad to assist you.

Finally, our recent voting is complete, and I’m pleased to introduce our new Affiliate Vice President, Douglas L. Florence, Sr., CPP. Douglas is the gaming segment director for Las Vegasbased Nice Systems, Inc. Also new on the board in 2007 is Affiliated Educator Vice President William Thompson. William is a professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

They join current 2007 board members:

• President, Michael Lipton
• Vice President, Robert Stocker II
• Secretary, Anthony R. Coles
• Treasurer, James B. Deutsch

Warm Regards,
Michael Lipton
