Casino Lawyer Magazine, Winter 2007

Magazine - Casino Lawyer Magazine
Wednesday, 29 October 2008

Casino Lawyer Magazine, Winter 2007n the last two decades, gaming law has emerged as a critically important legal specialization. It is an exciting and diverse practice that touches on many other disciplines of law such as contracts, antitrust, constitutional law and others.

This area of practice has grown rapidly to meet the demand of growing and emerging gaming markets across the globe, but there is still a large, unsatisfied portion of that market.

If your firm offers gaming law as a specialty or would benefit by reaching gaming lawyers, regulators, compliance officers, security or surveillance directors, in house counsel or casino executives, Casino Lawyer magazine can help connect your firm’s abilities with the needs of the gaming industry.

Casino Lawyer is published four times a year by the International Masters of Gaming Law. It is distributed along with Casino Enterprise Management magazine to over 16,500 subscribers. Two thousand of these issues reach international destinations.

A more cynical way of describing this phenomenon is that most media companies these days run on a shoestring, and year-end recollections are easy to compile—a creative editor can stretch lists and compilations over several issues.

I’m not going to do that though. While I feel I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge the challenges of the past year, I believe in learning from history, not repeating it. So let’s focus on opportunities.

While our membership is powerless to do much about war, global economies, or Paris Hilton, we can build on the many successes we’ve enjoyed—both as individuals serving our constituents, and as a collective body known as the International Masters of Gaming Law.

As we’ve said many times, IMGL’s primary mission is to provide education about gaming law. And to that point, I’m proud to report that the final quarter of 2006 was a huge success for our organization.

Our presence at G2E in November was strong, with 76 people attending our reception honoring Regulator of the Year, Peter Dean; many members shared their expertise in seminars, and we saw tremendous traffic at our booth. ...
