Image The Economic Report of the President is an annual report written by the Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors.

It overviews the nation's economic progress using text and extensive data appendices. The Economic Report of the President is transmitted to Congress no later than ten days after the submission of the Budget of the United States Government. Supplementary reports can be issued to the Congress which contain additional and/or revised recommendations.

The Council of Economic Advisers (CEA): Group of economists appointed by the President of the United States to provide counsel on economic policy. The council helps to prepare the President's budget message to Congress, and its chairman frequently speaks for the administration's economic policy. (Barron's)

Council of Economic Advisers:

The Council of Economic Advisers is a group of economists set up to advise the President of the United States. It is a part of the Executive Office of the President of the United States, and provides much of the economic policy of the White House. The Council's three members are nominated by the President and approved by the Senate.

Its current members are Katherine Baicker of UCLA and Matthew Slaughter of Dartmouth. As of January 31, President Bush has nominated Edward P. Lazear to fill the seat recently vacated by new Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke. Pending Senate confirmation, the President is expected to designate Lazear as Chairman of the CEA.

Every year the Council prepares the Economic Report of the President. The staff of the council includes about 20 academic economists, plus four permanent economic statisticians.
