Nova7Awards Past

The Nova7Awards history is rich with vision and a passion to motivate members. After 15 years of running the Nova7 Facility Awards competition, I decided to take a look back at the entries. What I found is that, over the years, the entries haven’t changed much in objective — to facilitate a place or program to encourage healthy lifestyles, resulting in increased memberships and retention rates — or in their level of creativity.

Here’s a smattering of some of the more creative facility entries that won in previous years. Perhaps they will trigger some new ideas for those who enter the awards, and maybe inspire those who have yet to enter the awards to do so in 2009.

• In the 1995 competition, LifeQuest Fitness & Aerobics Club, Charleston, S.C., won for its After Hours program, at which the facility sponsored a “smoke-free comedy show at a local sports café, as well as a smoke-free Monday Night Football get-together with a local radio station.” And for those who weren’t interested in spending their evenings at a restaurant or bar, LifeQuest remained open Sunday through Thursday from 11:30 p.m. to 3 a.m. ...
