There is something special about placing a seed in a cup of potting mix, adding water and watching it grow -- a magical lesson learned back when we were children. now it seems that lesson is valued more than ever as we watch our country’s open spaces and farmland degrade and we become further removed from the sources of our food. At seeds of change, we have been on a journey for almost twenty years, working hard to uphold our mission of “Preserving Biodiversity and Promoting sustainable, organic agriculture.” it is through this undertaking that we are pleased to off er you over 700 varieties of organically produced seeds, rich in biodiversity, each with its own story to tell. we are especially proud this year to add 60 new introductions to our off ering, representing even more biodiversity and unique varieties for you to try. Healthy ecosystems depend upon a rich variety of plant and animal species. a biologically diverse environment maximizes the essential interactions among species, and thus is better adapted to climatic, chemical, and physical stresses that may occur. also, a richly diverse landscape creates a lasting beauty not found in the monotonous mono-cultures of modern agriculture. Browse through the pages of our catalog and you will fi nd traditional and heirloom seeds that have been carefully preserved through many generations. Th ese organic seed varieties each have an important niche to fi ll within the diversity of life. it is important to have access to open pollinated seeds, so you, the gardener, can begin to save your own seeds. By doing so you help ensure these varieties can continue to be available for future generations. in addition to providing organic seeds to gardeners everywhere, through our website, catalog and seed donation program, we also support certifi ed organic seed growers. Th ese organic farmers, located throughout the country, are the future of sustainable food production. By personally knowing these farmers, we can ensure excellence in the quality and purity of our seeds. each seed lot is grown and cleaned to exceed UsDa germination and purity standards. certain species, such as corn, soybeans and chard, are also tested to guarantee they are free of gmos (genetically modifi ed organisms). we take our mission seriously, and we hope you will join us in restoring biodiversity and growing healthy food in our gardens, our communities and our world. it does not matter if you have a farm, a small patio, or a community garden plot in the city -- together we can make a diff erence. Visit Seeds of Change's Web Site Our Mission (Seeds of Change): In 1989, we at Seeds of Change started with a simple mission: to help preserve biodiversity and promote sustainable, organic agriculture. We sought to do this by cultivating and disseminating an extensive range of open-pollinated, organically grown, heirloom and traditional vegetable, flower and herb seeds. This is still our mission. We seek out traditional varieties from the Americas and treasured heirlooms from abroad, many of which are in danger of being lost due to the rapid consolidation within the seed industry and the decline of indigenous agriculture and seed-saving knowledge. In addition to our seeds, we've since grown to offer a broad selection of 100% organic seedlings, pears, apples, as well as gardening tools, books and an extensive line of our own organic foods. We believe there is a solution to one of modern day's largest environmental crisis: The loss of diversity and erosion/pollution of our precious soil. Our conventional agricultural methods are polluting our planet, ourselves and future generations, as well as squandering our valuable soil, water, and energy resources. We believe we can make a change to all of this: starting with our seeds. Bookmark
