Invest in Germany Magazine, Volume 3/3 2007

Magazine - Invest in Germany

Invest in Germany Magazine, Volume 3/3 2007, Asiaing.comThe economy was booming in 2007 in Germany, and this positive trend will continue in 2008. The most important German economic research institutes predict a 2.2% growth in real GDP and describe the state of the German economy as “robust.” According to the institutes, up to 1 million unemployed people will also be able to find a new job next year, which is great news for those looking for work.

Our organization, Invest in Germany, is happy to be able to contribute to this positive development. The companies we helped to set up shop in Germany in 2007 will soon be creating several hundred jobs.

Several photovoltaics companies have decided to use the special advantages of the location and are setting up production facilities here. Among them is Avancis, a joint venture between Shell Erneuerbare Energien and Saint-Gobain Glass, which will produce next-generation solar modules based on an advanced technology in Saxony. California-based Signet Solar chose Saxony, too – Mochau, near Dresden – as the location for a new facility for developing and manufacturing photovoltaic modules.

The US company Nanosolar will begin production in Luckenwalde, in the Berlin-Brandenburg capital region, and Sunfilm AG, a Dutch-Norwegian joint venture, will soon begin operations in its new solar cell production plant in Großröhrsdorf, Saxony.

The German subsidiary of Canadabased ARISE Technologies Corporation plans to begin production in its solar cell manufacturing plant in Bischofswerda, Saxony, in the second quarter of 2008.

Our other industry teams have also been successful in 2007. Swedish CRM outsourcer Transcom commenced operations at its newest German site in Dresden, Saxony, with 190 agents last July. We advised Transcom along with the Economic Development Corporation of Saxony.

The British company Plastic Logic, the leader in plastic electronics manufacturing, has begun construction of a manufacturing plant in Dresden to produce a new generation of flexible display screens that are being described as a form of “electronic paper.” And Micro-Emissive Displays (MED), a Scottish microelectronics company, has opened a production facility in Dresden, too, producing its trademark-protected microdisplays.

These are just some outstanding examples. We have met several hundred other companies in 2007 from all over the world and have not only presented them with the advantages of Germany as a business location, but
also prepared tailor-suited financial solutions and incentive plans for them, if needed. We hope for an equally busy year in 2008 and wish all our partners good luck in your business affairs and good health for the New Year!
