LEADER Magazine: Stay informed about major changes in Girl Scouting with this interim LEADER mini-magazine. The fall/winter 2007 LEADER is a special edition, 16-page mini-magazine that features the transformational developments unfolding in Girl Scouting and to announce the innovative, redesigned, and more vibrant LEADER magazine coming in summer 2008. Learn about "leadership journeys," a primary program feature for girls in the New Girl Scout Leadership Experience; the series of themed activities focused on building specific leadership skills that will replace single-interest badges; and the flexible approaches, or "pathways," to volunteering adults in Girl Scouting will be able to choose from to accommodate their busy lifestyles. Read what Patricia Diaz Dennis, Chair of the National Board of Directors, and two young adults—Vanessa and Angela Simmons, stars of MTV's hit show Run's House—have to say about the importance of being a Girl Scout volunteer, as well as bilingual testimony from Marisol Cruz, a volunteer from Florida, on the positive effects of involvement in the lives of girls. With World Thinking Day, February 22, right around the corner, the four-page spread on environmentally sensitive activities, grouped by grade level, will serve as a stimulating resource. In addition, relevant news items from troops and councils appear in the Bulletin Board section. It's the perfect tool for explaining the revitalization of the Girl Scout Movement to our volunteers and our entire adult readership. Download Leader Magazine, Fall/Winter 2007 PDF format, 7MB. Our Movement is in the midst of a national transformation, unprecedented in the nearly 100 years since Daisy Low’s vision became a reality. Everything we are doing—at GSUSA and in councils throughout the nation—is designed to enhance the delivery and maximize the impact of the unique, girl-led experience known as Girl Scouting. And you, our valued Girl Scout volunteers, are the people who make it all possible. To support the best leadership experience, we are introducing a dynamic, more vibrant LEADER magazine, one that will offer inspiration and innovative ideas and practical tips for you to try with the girls you guide, and to share with your friends and family. The new LEADER is a joint project between Girl Scouts and Spot On Media, a custom publisher that works with some of the leading companies and nonprofit organizations in the United States. It will feature profiles of well-known Girl Scout alumnae, highlight best practices and success stories from current Girl Scout volunteers, and give you opportunities to voice your opinions on important issues in the Movement. Together, we are leading the way into a new century of Girl Scouting. We’ll be talking a lot about this in the new LEADER magazine, on our Web sites and in the many meetings and publications coming in 2008. We’ll be talking about reaching more girls by communicating with them in their language, about what’s important to them. And we’ll be talking about what it really means to be a “girlled” Movement. If we are to present a revitalized, refreshed Girl Scout Movement to the world, we need to have a forum where we can share our experiences and help one another find our best selves, so that we can be of greater service to the girls in charge. That forum is LEADER magazine and this mini-mag is a taste of what’s to come. Join us on this journey of transformation and help us remain relevant to girls for generations to come. With best wishes to you in the New Year.
