Celebrating Our Success

We are delighted to report that 2007 has proved to be another great year for our hugely talented MBA classes with 97% of our graduating class receiving an offer of employment within three months of graduation and 99% of our first year students securing a summer internship or project.

Our students have continued to accept top positions across the industry, finance and consulting sectors all around the world. Located in the world’s finance capital, it is unsurprising that financial roles continue to be a popular choice among London Business School students. In particular, the efforts of our business development team to diversify our finance recruitment partners have paid dividends and their success is reflected in the increased number of students entering the finance sector upon graduation – up from 42% to 46%. Consulting and industry continue to attract more than 50% of our graduates and here too we see a diversity of global recruiting partners drawing from London Business School talent.

The appeal of our students to top recruiters across the board is reflected by a steady salary increase across all sectors in 2007 with the greatest increase in Global Industry, particularly in FMCG, Energy and Media roles. Our 2007 class is also the most entrepreneurial in recent years with 5% opting to start their own venture upon graduation.

Not to be outdone, our first years have proved that they are highly sought after by recruiters. The number of first years undertaking more than one internship this summer almost doubled, rising from 6% in 2006 to 11% in 2007, proving that recruiters continue to value the skills, leadership and global outlook of our students.

Connecting Great Talent to Great Opportunities

This year, Career Services have taken great strides in streamlining the processes we use to connect our global talent to the best opportunities available. June 2007 saw the successful launch of Career Central – our world-class online recruitment system. Neither students nor recruiters wasted any time familiarising themselves with this one-stop service for CV creation and search, job postings, and presentation and interview scheduling.

We continue to build ongoing relationships with top corporate recruiters around the globe and, in addition to welcoming a record number of recruiters to campus, our teams are on the road meeting organisations in Hong Kong, New York, California and continental Europe, to name just a few of our recent visits in 2007. Student treks and competitions to Dubai, Madrid, Paris and India amongst others continue to showcase the best and brightest of London Business School talent.

Our lifelong connection with our alumni has also gone from strength to strength with the success of our Alumni Job Board and CV Database. Both recruiters and alumni are enjoying the benefits of this service which enables recruiters to connect with our community of over 27,000 alumni.

And, with so much going on, we recently launched our quarterly recruiter newsletter to ensure that our recruiting partners are always kept up-to-date with the latest news from around the London Business School community.

Looking Forward

Overall, 2007 was another bumper year for recruitment and the appointment of a new Director and several new staff members has brought additional expertise to an already vital and committed Career Services team.

Having just welcomed our first Dubai-EMBA class to our community, we are already looking forward to building upon our successes in 2008. We will kick off with a packed week of Corporate Partner presentations in the second week of January, followed by our second annual “Industry Month” in February, a full schedule of presentations, careers fairs and interviews through February and March, and our annual Recruiters Forum at the end of the summer term.

We hope that this report is helpful in setting out the choices of our graduating and first year MBA students. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me or a member of the Career Services team who will be happy to help.

Best wishes,
Diane Morgan, Director, Career Services
