In Las Vegas, it was the dreamy pairing of an appetizer and a glass of red wine at Aureole. In Singapore, it was the messy but mind-blowing chili crab at East Coast Seafood. In Morocco, a surprisingly gorgeous lamb tagine at a food stall in a tiny spit of a town. In New Orleans, the meal at Stella and the controlled chaos of breakfast at Mother’s. I admit: I can’t always recall the details of even the most beautiful ballrooms I’ve seen, but a great meal? Down to the dessert. This month we feature two food-inspired articles. First, associate editor Jennifer Dienst puts finger foods to the test in “Neat Eats” on page 87. A sometime student of New York’s Institute of Culinary Education, Dienst challenged chef James Briscione (late of Daniel) to create reception-ready hors d’oeuvres that are delicious and easy to eat (she puts them to both the taste and lipstick tests).
