Still some promise in tough B&C market
Housing starts in the U.S. have plummeted to the lowest levels in decades, but the building and construction (B&C) market will still continue to be one of the top end-use markets for plastics, especially once money from the federally-funded rescue plan filters into the market. For plastics processors interested in a contrarian bet on B&C, you could do worse than to consider injection molded siding, WPC siding, plastic roofing or even solar panels.

Change seems certain, soon, in Japan’s injection molding machine market
One hundred eighty. That, say MPW sources, is how many injection molding machines were made in Japan in December 2008. That’s about half the number made in November 2008, about 1000 below the average monthly output in 2008, and well below the 2006-2007 average of 1400-1600 presses monthly. In February, there were as-yet unconfirmed reports that some of the largest manufacturers there still have not asked employees to come back to work this year. Change seems inevitable…

Modular conveyors prove handy in a transitioning market
If you cannot handle change, you probably don’t have business serving the automotive industry, where constant change is par for the course. The same can be said for processors’ kit: equipment needs to be just as flexible as the processors who use it.
