From Nieman Foundation:

Now in its 58th year, Nieman Reports serves a unique role in the community of journalism publications. Journalists write stories out of experiences they've had in covering events and issues, and they write about newsroom issues common in the craft. In these articles, they share insights and lessons with our worldwide audience of leading print, broadcast and online journalists. Photojournalists and cartoonists also contribute their work and ideas to Nieman Reports.

During the past year, the quarterly magazine has featured many important topics:

  • Reporting from Africa
  • Coverage of North Korea
  • Editorial cartoons: The impact and issues of an evolving craft
  • News in an era of punditry and attitude
  • Water: A life force harnessed as news
  • The vanishing newspaper and emergence of the Web
  • Government secrecy and the press
  • International training of journalists
  • Eroding freedoms: Secrecy, trust and sources

This year Nieman Reports also published an online collection of more than three years of stories we published in the magazine related to the coverage of war and terror. This special edition of Nieman Reports is available in PDF format.

Nieman Reports staff sent word of this project to a number of journalism schools and newsrooms through a targeted e-mail effort. The staff also used e-mail and Web listservs to alert journalists about other featured topics: telling members of the Society of Environmental Journalists and other environment journalists, for example, about the issue on water.
