For those of you who are already loyal readers of OR Today and OR Living, I sincerely hope you are enjoying the publication – and for those of you who may just be picking up this magazine for the first time, welcome!

Although we had been enjoying success with OR Today for a number of years now, it became apparent to all of us here at MD Publishing that the varying needs of surgical nurses were not adequately being met (at least not by the many magazines, trade publications and journals that nurses have come to rely on). While these publications may have been meeting nurses’ professional needs, we recognized that nurses do have lives outside the OR (imagine that!), and that a magazine tailored to nurses’ professional and personal lives would likely be well-received.

I’m happy to report that nurses have responded extremely well to our new-and-improved publication and our readers are eager to tell us that they look forward to digging into their new copies each month. We are keenly aware that while OR nurses may love their profession they also face numerous work-related challenges on any given day, which is precisely why they can benefit from a publication that offers a brief reprieve from those work-related stresses and demands of the OR, while also helping them make the most of their time outside the hectic walls of the hospital or surgery center.

Our goal is to make this magazine your own – one that exemplifies the dynamic, rewarding, yet challenging, surgical nursing profession and simplifies the lives of nurses on numerous fronts. Because every magazine should be a work in progress, we welcome your suggestions and certainly want to hear from you if you have any ideas for future stories or columns.
