The Travel & Tourism (T&T) industry has become a key sector in the world economy and a major driver of economic growth and employment worldwide. As one of the fastest-growing industries in terms of foreign exchange earnings and job creation, healthy T&T sectors provide important opportunities for countries to raise living standards, and—particularly in the developing world—to tackle poverty alleviation.

Youth-serving organizations strive to create a safe environment for youth, employees, and volunteers so that youth can grow, learn, and have fun. Part of creating a safe environment is making sure that youth are not harmed in any way while participating in organization-sponsored activities. One risk in any organization working directly with youth is child sexual abuse.

It is vital that organizations create a culture where child sexual abuse is discussed, addressed, and prevented.

The first thing our parents are usually told about us when we are born is what sex we are. From then on, we are not just their baby, but their son or daughter. Parents may already know what sex their child will be due to prenatal scanning. Whilst some parents want to know their baby’s sex before birth, others prefer to wait until the birth to find out.

Actually choosing the sex of our children has not, until recently, been a realistic possibility. New techniques of sperm sorting however, as well as preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD), are beginning to offer parents more reliable means of having a child of one sex or the other. The question is no longer whether we can but whether we should be able to choose the sex of our children.

Entrepreneurship in Emerging Economies: The Creation and Development of New Firms in Latin America and East Asia

This report presents the results of a comparative study of entrepreneurship in Latin America and East Asia. Entrepreneurship is defined as the capacity to create and develop new business ventures. The study focuses on the process of creation of new companies. That process is analyzed at three different stages: inception of the entrepreneurial venture, company start-up, and its early development. From the initial motivation to become an entrepreneur to the contacts needed to help solve problems as the business gets underway and grows, a number of factors affect the behavior of potential entrepreneurs.
