Special Report on Medicaid: Bridging the Gap Between Care And Cost
Pew Center on the States , 2006
Medicaid is the ultimate health care safety net for nearly 60 million
Americans, largely low-income children and their parents, pregnant women, senior
citizens and the disabled. But it comes with a hefty pricetag: $329 billion in
2004 alone. States and the federal government are determined to cut its
budget-breaking growth rate.(Asiaing.com) That may be necessary-but will cost-cutting
measures strangle the program's capacity to provide vital health care? What may
be the unintended consequences of well-meaning reforms to Medicaid.

Global Trends in Venture Capital 2006 Survey
Venture capital continues to go global
Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu (DTT) , 2006
The survey’s results indicate a very positive story for venture capital
(VC) around the world in 2006. Although it looks as though the
intersection of mature and emerging VC markets is imminent, the
responses suggest that VCs are moving cautiously to select the right
business models for a global approach to finding opportunities that
will generate better returns for their investors. The 2006 results
reinforce the overall messages from last year's survey, the first of
its kind.

Paying for tomorrow: Practical strategies for tackling the public pension crisis
Deloitte Research , July 2006
Funding public pension systems represents one of the greatest financial challenges for state and local governments today. About 85 percent of state pension systems are underfunded, with enough assets to cover only 80 percent of their future pension commitments, according to Wilshire Research. The unsustainable growth in pension funding requirements could easily crowd out opportunities for governments to invest in education, economic development and health care.

Hunger and Human Rights:
The Politics of Famine in North Korea
Stephan Haggard and Marcus Noland
U.S. Committee for Human Rights in North Korea , 2005
North Korea is well into its second decade of chronic food shortages. A
famine in the 1990s killed as many as 1 million North Koreans or
roughly 5 percent of the population. Millions more were left to contend
with broken lives and personal misery. Particularly worrisome are the
long-term effects, including irreversible ones, on the human development
of infants and children. But North Korean claims that the famine was
due primarily to natural disasters and external shocks are misleading
in important respects.
