Rising US sub-prime mortgage defaults were the trigger for an inevitable and broad-based repricing of risk and deleveraging by banks and other financial market participants. This process is proving even more prolonged and difficult than anticipated. Banks have been unable to sell or secure funding on assets in which markets have closed. That has increased uncertainty about banks’ financial positions, contributing to continued stress in money markets and tighter credit availability.
In these conditions, adverse news and rumours can lead to a sudden loss of market confidence, as was shown by the collapse of Bear Stearns in mid-March. |

This study was undertaken to examine the impacts of expanded levels of ethanol and biodiesel production and to provide a better understanding of the potential economic and agricultural impacts of this expansion.
The study results indicate that producing 60 billion gallons of ethanol and 1.6 billion gallons of biodiesel from renewable resources by the year 2030 is projected to result in the development of a new industrial complex with nearly 35 million acres planted to dedicated energy crops. |

The Dove Report: Challenging Beauty yields significant insights into the hearts and minds of women across the country. The first revelation being that the very subject of beauty contains inherent contradictions. Beauty oppresses, yet it can liberate. It’s a rare commodity, yet it is universal. Hedge funds currently manage over two trillion dollars in assets worldwide, and they are an increasingly prominent feature on the investment landscape. The size of the hedge fund market has grown dramatically in recent years, and issues arising from hedge fund investments and management now have broad implications for the entire financial industry. Hedge funds often involve complex, illiquid or opaque investments and investment strategies. These investments, however, receive little regulatory oversight. Thus, hedge funds are suitable only for sophisticated and prudent investors who are able to identify, analyze and bear the associated risks, and follow appropriate practices to evaluate, select, monitor, and exit these investments. |
