Pew Center on the States , 2006

Medicaid is the ultimate health care safety net for nearly 60 million Americans, largely low-income children and their parents, pregnant women, senior citizens and the disabled. But it comes with a hefty pricetag: $329 billion in 2004 alone.            Press Release about the Report

With separate programs in each of the 50 states, Medicaid is the perfect topic for the Center's first report. It affords an opportunity to analyze the real-world experiences of states, highlight examples of what works and what doesn't, and inform a crucial policy debate that will affect the lives of millions of Americans.

Bridging the Gap Between Care and Cost was released as a special report in the January issue of Governing Magazine and State News, a publication of the Council of State Governments
