IN THIS ISSUE Visit Student Group Tour Magazine Website EDITOR'S LETTER At a specialty bookstore recently, I rediscovered a book that had been a childhood favorite of mine more than 50 years ago, Manners Can Be Fun by Munro Leaf. The author’s other “Can Be Fun” books, which include Reading Can Be Fun, were bookshelf musts back in the day. Based on old-fashioned common sense of simpler times, the books are filled with well-defined rules to live by. Today’s kids need to embrace the same responsibility for their behavior, whether in school or traveling, but take in advice in many different ways. Humor and colorful illustrative characters are still key, but they are woven into handson activity stations, role-playing, and other interactive learning experiences. Teachers and tour operators known for having well-behaved kids, know that students learn more on a trip while they are having fun. Examples abound of students who are not only poorly behaved but are also not learning because the environment isn’t conducive to having fun. Imagine learning about music, art, science, and technology while attending a performance of Blue Man Group or studying physics on a roller coaster at Carowinds Education Days. These pages of Student Group Tour magazine are filled with ideas for your student groups to travel, perform, and play — all with a fun learning adventure in mind. We hope you find that learning can be fun on every page. Carol Smith, Bookmark
