Information on the latest waste management industry news, economic events, technology, and products and services is offered in a format tailored for operating managers, engineers and others allied to the Waste Management industry. FROM THE EDITOR Using a combination of metal sensors and lasers the team at Titech have managed to create a machine which finds those pesky bits of wire and separates them. Once the plastic is then stripped from the wire you have two valuable waste streams. Simple. Recycling is an incredibly important sector in the waste industry today, and developments in policy, with the onus on reuse and recovery, are driving the market all over the world. It is with pleasure then that I introduce our latest recycling special edition. As well as all the latest news, including a short report on the aforementioned Poly Finder on page 18, we take a look at the WEEE stream (page 25), paper recycling (page 29) and go in-depth into the technology of sorting plastics (page 21). There is also a round-up of product news from some of the big names in recycling on page 32. Other highlights to be found inside the September-October Waste Management World are an examination of the issues involved in selecting a site for sanitary landfill (page 38), a look at high spec sweepers on the streets of Prague (page 43), accelerated biological organics processing (page 47) and a special report on a groundbreaking WTE operation in London which will see waste being transported down the river Thames (page 50). I hope you enjoy this issue. Bookmark
