Water Safety Guide for New Mums & Dads

Ebook - Guide

Water Safety Guide for New Mums & Dads, Asiaing.comOur children are our most precious gift and as parents we want to make sure that they are always happy, healthy and safe.

Drowning is the 3rd largest cause of accidental death amongst children in the UK.

A shocking statistic in itself, but when you consider that younger children and babies are MOST LIKELY TO DROWN AT HOME OR IN A GARDEN, you can begin to recognise the importance of water safety education. As responsible parents we naturally want to protect our children, and a good way to do this is to improve their confidence in and around water and TEACH THEM TO BE WATER SAFE.

SO HOW CAN YOU DO THIS?

This is how we do it:

1. Teach your children to swim. Swimming is a life skill that’s not only fun and healthy, but will also increase their water safety awareness. STA has a progressive learn to swim and water familiarisation scheme that can be started when your baby is just a few weeks old, which incorporates water safety from the first lesson.

2. Follow the RoSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) Water Safety Code and, when your children are old enough, make sure that they know the code and always follow it. Being aware of the dangers is half the battle towards preventing accidents, and this is precisely why we’ve chosen to produce this leaflet. Please read through the simple advice contained and keep this leaflet somewhere safe so that you can refer back to it.

I wish you all many years of happy and safe swimming with your family!

Chief Executive, STA

About the STA (Swimming Teachers Association):

STA is a solutions driven organisation, dedicated to working with its customers and partners here in the UK and internationally, to build Safer, Healthier & Better Skilled Communities.

As a major organisation concerned with swimming and water safety, STA is also at the forefront of raising standards. Not only is STA, the ONLY organisation that includes water safety in every element of its swimming teaching, STA is also the ONLY organisation that insists its swimming teachers can perform a rescue.

Furthermore in the last 2 years, STA has:

    * Facilitated the founding of the National Federation of Swim Schools (NFS); an independent organisation dedicated to providing higher standards in a poorly regulated area of the market.
    * Invested substantial funds to engage the British Standards Institution (BSi) to create a Publicly Available Specification – PAS 81 for the management and safe operation of UK swimming schools.
    * Created the STAmark accreditation, which assists Swimming Schools wanting to improve their management and standards of service delivery. STAmark is currently the only accreditation that can externally validate a Swim School on best practices and quality standards, and is fully aligned with the PAS 81 specification.

STA is also experiencing unprecedented success overseas, and partners organisations in China, Singapore, Middle East, Caribbean, Netherlands and Ireland, plus many more, as part of its long-term commitment to reduce deaths by drowning, by improving standards in teaching swimming, life saving and other survival techniques.

With a heritage spanning 75 years, STA has firmly positioned itself as a leading, industry-respected provider of specialist ‘fit for purpose’ qualifications to the sports and leisure industry.
