The first half of 2008 will see some important changes in leadership at the Corporation, with both a new chief executive and a new Board to be appointed. After 13 years at the helm, Sam Tolley stepped down on February 7 to explore new professional challenges.

Sam felt that the completion of the Directions to 2025 industry strategy last year was both an important milestone for the wine sector and an appropriate time for him to hand over the reins. He played a key role in the development and marketing of the strategy and takes great pride in its success and its acceptance.

On behalf of the Board I would like to thank Sam for his long-term commitment to the Corporation and the sector. During his time as chief executive, Australia’s wine exports grew from $360 million to $3 billion a year and the AWBC expanded from 15 staff to 60, including seven overseas offices.

The term of all seven current Board members expires on April 30 and the AWBC Selection Committee – with Bob Granger as Presiding Member – has been tasked to find the right team to oversee our strategic direction. ...
